The
leader of the Turkish opposition left-wing HDP party, Pervin Buldan,
openly accuses the German government for making deals with Turkey
through which Germany continues to sell weapons while the Turkish
army occupies Afrin.
From
Hannover, Germany, where she was present on Saturday for the Newroz
Kurdish celebration, Buldan warned the German government not to
ignore Kurdish people's demand for freedom.
"We
know that you are equipping Turkey with tanks and artillery. These
agreements prevent us from even celebrating Newroz here. Even raids
on Kurdish political organizations in Germany are taking place,"
Buldan said.
Arms
exports from Germany to Turkey have been increased in 2018, despite
political and diplomatic disputes between the two countries.
A
statement from the German Ministry of Finance confirms that during
the first five and a half weeks of the Turkish attacks in Afrin, 20
German arms exports to Turkey were approved. Exports made in 2018
have a total value of 4.4 million euros, when last year there were 14
exports worth 3.6 million.
Air
raids and bombings carried out by the Turkish army along with the
Free Syrian Army led to the death of 250 people in Afrin.
Additionally,
Pervin Buldan referred to the recent release of German journalist
Deniz Yucel to prove that there are secret agreements made under the
table between Germany and Turkey. Yucel, was jailed on accusations
for espionage and terrorism because he had interviewed Kurdistan
Workers' Party (PKK) leaders. He was released after secret talks
between members of the German government and Turkish officials.
