A Greek
government source denied reports in a book by French President
Francois Hollande that claims Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras may
have called on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s assistance to
print a Greek currency.
The book, “A
President Shouldn’t Say That,” divulges behind-the-scenes
information about his negotiations.
The same
source said there had been contacts between the two men but there was
no such issue raised by Tsipras. During their talks, both Tsipras and
Putin had said that it was in Greece’s interests to remain in the
Eurozone. The book cites Putin as stating that Greece asked for
Russia to print drachmas as the country did not have such a printing
press in its own territory.
