Infants and
children are almost half of the victims in the new shipwreck on
Sunday morning off the Farmakonisi.
There were more than 120 people aboard in the boat that was capsized
resulting to at least 34 people lost at sea. There are fears that the
death toll may increase. By noon the dead amounted to 28, but the
number is constantly growing.
So far, 34
bodies have been collected, including four infants and eleven
children, six boys and five girls. Ten women and nine men among the
dead. In total, 68 people have been rescued while 29 managed to reach
the beach of Farmakonisi swimming.
Research on
the identification of other missing persons continued with the
participation of two helicopters Super Puma and boats of the Greek
coast guard and navy. The coast guard rescued 24 refugees.
